I love all forms of creative writing and have been writing short stories and poetry since I was young. Recently, with the luxury of more time, I have been writing novels.
Uplift is my third novel--and most unusual! I was inspired to write it to give birds and other nonhuman characters a voice, as I have noticed that we people tend to overlook them because they don't speak our language.
It is my hope that telling a compelling, relatable story can help inspire greater respect and compassion for birds and other creatures.
Being in nature is where I feel most at home. It has been a constant source of joy and inspiration for as long as I can remember.
I have always been curious and enjoyed learning about the natural world, and this led me to become a naturalist. I am co-founder of a naturalist group of volunteers dedicated to conservation and stewardship of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
I was founder and CEO of Green Futures Unlimited, a sustainability consulting firm providing solutions for Fortune 500 companies. I also taught with the University of California-San Diego Extension.
I served as Director of Environmental Health & Safety for Pfizer, Inc. where I founded the La Jolla, CA site sustainability and green chemistry programs, and was honored with a Pfizer Achievement award.
I hold a MPH from the School of Public Health and a BS from the School for Environment and Sustainability, both from the University of Michigan.
I've been a pianist since the age of 5 and am what is commonly known as a "serious amateur."
I have traveled extensively around the USA and the world, including North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Nothing brings me more joy than hiking in the wilds with my husband and family,
taking particular delight in birds and wildflowers!
